Over the last 14 years, Michele Sommerlath has opened our eyes to a dazzling array of furniture, art and decorative items in her stores French 50s 60s and Galerie Sommerlath. Her deftly curated collection of unusual 20th century design is a haven for collectors and designers alike. This blog is our attempt to connect with our new and old clients in a different way and ultimately to enrich your experience with us. We plan to use the blog to update you on our collection including our latest finds, pick of the month, before and after of select pieces, biographies of some of the designers we carry, info about what’s on sale, recent press and a lot more.

So let’s get started…our pick of the month is an amazing leather sofabed from the 1970s by the Swiss firm de Sede. This deep, comfortable sofa features ribbed, cocoa colored leather upholstery and a back frame of tubular chrome. The back cushions, which are narrower than the seat, may be easily removed to create a deeper sleeping surface for a single overnight guest. In addition, the entire unit unfolds to become a bed for two. The base of the unit is an inset, smoothly upholstered support. De Sede is known throughout the world for their hand sewn, fully upholstered leather furniture particularly from the 1970s-1980s. In recent press news, Galerie Sommerlath recently got a shout out in the LA Times Home Blog! The article, entitled, “‘Mad Men’: The story behind Don Draper’s new digs,” visits with Mad Men set decorator Claudette Didul. Don Draper’s Lied Mobler black leather lounge chair was purchased from us. In other news,  we are getting our social media outreach up and running. We now have two dedicated Twitter accounts, @french50s60s and @galeriesommerla, so please follow both of these. Please “like” us on Facebook, http://www.facebook.com/pages/Galerie-Sommerlath-and-French-50s-60s/154994977924692, as we are trying to build up our audience there as well. Take a look at our Yelp! page, http://www.yelp.com/biz/galerie-sommerlath-and-french-50s60s-culver-city, and if you’re in the mood leave us a positive review! Michele is also on LinkedIn, http://www.linkedin.com/pub/michele-sommerlath/1a/468/9b8, so feel free to connect with her there. Finally, we also joined Four Square so now you can “check in” whenever you stop by the store. All of these platforms are meaningless without participation from our clients so please help us get connected!
